Hispanic Market
The Hispanic population in the U.S. is the fastest growing ethnic group in the U.S. and currently the largest minority. The U.S. Hispanic population is expected to grow 34% from 2000 to 2010   or 5x faster than the non-Hispanic population in the U.S., which will grow 6% over the same period, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Today there are 43 million Hispanics in the U.S., representing 14% of the total U.S. population.  According to the U.S. Census Bureau, by 2010 there will be 48 million Hispanics in the country, which will represent 16% of the total population.

In DMAs like Los Angeles, Miami, San Antonio, Fresno and Albuquerque over 40% of the total population is Hispanic, and in other DMAs like McAllen, El Paso, and Santa Ana, more than 80% are Hispanics.  During this decade (2000-2010), U.S. Hispanics will account for the majority of the total population growth in the top 10 Hispanic DMAs.



U.S. Hispanics’ annual consumer spending is currently $715 billion, which is approximately 53% higher than Mexico’s $467 billion and 45% higher than Brazil’s $493 billion. The U.S. Hispanic consumer spending is expected to grow approximately 8% compounded annually for the next 20 years, thus outpacing the U.S. Hispanic population growth.

Approximately 19% or $137 billion of U.S. Hispanic total consumer spending is in the food and beverage category, compared to just 14% for non-Hispanics. In addition, U.S. Hispanic  food and beverage spending is expected to grow at a 6% annual rate for the next 5 years, compared with 3% for non-Hispanics.
